During today’s lesson I really thought that the examples of people’s values changing among different countries was significant. This was significant to me in terms of Literacy, Discourse and Culture because I never really thought about it until today. During our discussion I remembered when I went to New York with my friend two summers ago and we stayed at her aunt’s house where ALL of her Italian family was staying. She had to explain to me that you have to greet everyone in the morning when you wake up and hug and kiss everyone, regardless of how I felt about it personally. Her grandmother and grandfather are full-blooded Italians and so they took that stuff VERY seriously. It just shows me that you have to adjust and use your knowledge in literacy to create new Discourses and fit in to whatever situations you’re dealing with.

  1. I’m Italian too and this is so funny to me to hear the other end of the spectrum. I always have to warn my friends about how loud and touchy-feely my family will be when they come over, but thats just how its always been! Their reactions always seem similar to the one you described and I think its so cool how having friends of all different nationalities allows us to experience so many different cultures. PS: did you eat tons of delicious food? haha
